For Corvette lovers, spotting a Corvette in movies, TV shows, music videos, or commercials can enhance the viewing experience. And if you happen to be a fan of the “Fast 8” franchise, you’ll be excited to know that the latest installment features a 1966 Rally Red Corvette. Out of the 27,720 Corvettes made that year, only 3,366 were Rally Red. Additionally, the 1966 Corvette came with Holley carburetors and had subtle differences from previous models, such as an elongated, vertical-style Corvette script on the hood and a square-mesh, plated cast grill.
The fortunate member of the cast who gets to drive the 1966 Corvette in the Fast and Furious series is none other than Michelle Rodriguez, a talented 38-year-old from San Antonio, Texas. While her character in the movie franchise exhibits impressive driving skills, Michelle is also quite knowledgeable when it comes to cars in real life. She recently clocked her personal best speed of 201mph while driving a new Jaguar F-TYPE SVR.
Apart from the classic Corvette, viewers can look forward to seeing an array of cool rides in the upcoming movie. According to Dennis McCarthy, the film’s vehicle coordinator, one scene alone features cars that are estimated to be worth around $17 million combined. These vehicles include a 1929 Ford Rat Rod, McLaren 675LT, Speedkore Kuda, Twin Turbo Lamborghini, Ferrari F430, Rolls-Royce Wraith, and 1956 Chevy Bel Air.
During a Facebook live video, McCarthy expressed that the cars in one of their scenes are the coolest ones he has seen so far. He added that it is also the most expensive collection of vehicles they have ever had in one location.
On July 12, 2016, a scene from Fast 8 was being recorded in Atlanta and an image of it was shared with NCM by TJ Lindsley.
The upcoming movie, which is part of the Fast and Furious series, is the eighth one and is set to hit the big screens on April 14, 2017. F. Gary Gray, who is famous for directing Straight Outta Compton, is in charge of directing this blockbuster. The movie features a star-studded cast that includes Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Lucas Black, Kurt Russell, Scott Eastwood, Jason Statham, Charliez Theron, and Helen Mirren.
The production of the movie has taken place in various locations, such as Myvatan in Iceland, New York, and more recently, Atlanta. With the upcoming filming schedule, the crew will also be venturing to Cuba and Cleveland.
